UPDATE: Terror attack in Samaria, Israel’s heartland: Security guard shot dead at entrance to Ariel, terrorists flee

Israel National News | By Elad Benari | April 29, 2022

A security guard in his 20s was murdered in a shooting attack at the entrance to the city of Ariel in Samaria on Friday evening.

An initial investigation of the attack determined that a vehicle with an Israeli license plate arrived at the post of the security guard of Ariel. Two terrorists then got out of the vehicle, opened fire at the security guard from close range and killed him, before making a U-turn and fleeing the scene.

Magen David Adom paramedics who were called to the scene provided him with medical treatment before pronouncing him dead.

Magen David Adom paramedic Tomer Fein said, “When we arrived at the scene we saw a man in his 20s, unconscious with gunshot wounds, he was not breathing and did not have a pulse. We performed medical operations on him, but he was without signs of life and we had to pronounce him dead.”

A woman was standing next to the security guard who was killed at the security post where the attack took place. She was not injured, but was treated by Magen David Adom paramedics for anxiety.

A manhunt for the terrorists is underway. Residents of Ariel and nearby towns have been alerted of a possible infiltration by terrorists.

The IDF Spokesperson’s Unit confirmed the shooting attack and said, “Suspects in a vehicle arrived at the city of Ariel, shot at a security guard at the post at the entrance to the city and fled the scene.”

“IDF and Shin Bet fighters, along with an intelligence effort, launched a manhunt for the suspects and are blocking roads in the area,” added the statement.

The IDF also requested that footage of the attack that was disseminated on news websites and social media not be broadcast due to the fact that it causes harm to the victims of the incident, their families and the investigation of the attack.

Special units are taking part in the manhunt for the terrorists, the IDF said.

The Israel Police said the shooting targeted security guards at the western entrance to Ariel. Police and IDF forces in large numbers arrived at the scene and are searching for the suspected terrorists.

Responding to the attack, Ariel Mayor Eliyahu Shaviro said, “A shooting attack took place at the entrance to the city. The terrorists came, fired, made a U-turn and left the city. I trust that the security forces will do everything to catch those responsible for this attack.”
