Florida man armed with knife arrested outside White House for threatening to assassinate Trump

On Sunday, the New York Post reported that Roger Hedgpeth, a 25-year-old man from Florida, was arrested outside the White House after telling a Secret Service agent he intended to murder President Trump.  According to the report, Hedgpeth was armed with a 3 1/2-inch long knife.

“I am here to assassinate President Donald Trump,” he reportedly told a Secret Service agent about a block away from the White House.  “I have a knife to do it with,” he added.

The Post report added:

Hedgpeth was found with a 3 1/2-inch knife in a sheath on his left hip, and an empty pistol holster on his right one, authorities said.

Trump had no scheduled events and was believed to have been inside the White House at the time.

Hedgpeth, from Brandon, Florida, was arrested on a charge of making threats to do bodily harm and possession of a prohibited weapon, The Washington Post said. He was described in the police report as a “critically missing/endangered person as well as a mental health consumer,” the paper said, and taken to a hospital for a mental health evaluation.

Conservatives, echoing the sentiment of a book by popular talk show host Michael Savage, are fond of saying that liberalism is a mental disorder.  One could easily use this instance to say that assertion is correct.  And some of the comments at the Washington Post article would seem to support that notion:

  • “For once Florida Man is doing something constructive.”
  • “Trump deserves this; he’s the one who has stirred it up and is always provoking trouble among Americans.  This is not a sane person making decisions about his actions; I am relieved to know that. I hope no one will choose to commit any more political violence from either side.  Of course, the Republicans will milk this as usual.”

There’s more, but you get the idea.

This isn’t the first time unhinged leftists have expressed a desire to murder the president.  Shortly after his election in 2016, a series of GoFundMe pages were established with the intention of funding Trump’s assassination.  Those pages were taken down, but liberals — including some in the mainstream media and in Hollywood — have continued their violent rhetoric and threats.

Exit question: How much more of this will we see between now and November?
