Democratic presidential nominee Joseph R. Biden said Wednesday that Sen. Kamala Harris, his running mate, would be ready to step in on “day one” as president if he was met with an unfortunate accident like getting pushed off a roof.
Mr. Biden said Ms. Harris, a senator from California, is “so good” and “so damn bright and knowledgeable.”
“She’s ready to be president on day one if I – if somebody pushed me off a roof or something,” he said. “There are a lot of really fine women that I had to choose from, but I think she’s ready on day one.”
Mr. Biden made the remarks during an appearance on Steve Harvey’s radio show.
Mr. Biden, 77, has been fending off accusations that he’s lost his fastball and that voters are effectively supporting Ms. Harris for president if they vote for the Democratic ticket.
In May, he said he thinks of himself as a “transition” candidate.
A Rasmussen survey from last month found that 59% of likely voters, including 49% of Democrats, think there’s a good chance Ms. Harris will have to assume the presidency before his first term is over.
The former vice president told ABC 27 News in Pennsylvania this month that he works out every morning, is in “relatively good shape,” and that he wouldn’t be running for president unless he was in “very good health.”
He also touted his ability to run up ramps, a reference to President Trump’s gingerly walking down a ramp after delivering a West Point commencement address this year.

Sen. Kamala Harris (D-CA) aggressively promoted the Minnesota Freedom Fund’s work to release violent rioters in the smoldering aftermath of George Floyd’s death.
Now, reporting from the Daily Caller finds the controversial bail fund let six accused serial domestic abusers free to roam the streets.
As the Daily Caller reports:
Two of the men face felony charges for allegedly strangling women in their own homes, and another stands accused of beating his girlfriend upwards of six times with a closed fist, records show. All but one of the individuals had been convicted of prior domestic violence-related charges when the Minnesota Freedom Fund (MFF) helped bail them out of jail, according to court records.

Harris, a California senator, encouraged her supporters to donate to the MFF in June. The fundraising link she posted to Twitter sports her branding and was still accepting donations as of Tuesday.
Harris told her followers that contributions to the fund would “help post bail for those protesting on the ground in Minnesota” against the police-custody death of George Floyd.
However, the MFF revealed on Sept. 4 that only about six percent of the money it had spent since Floyd’s death had gone to help bail out of jail people facing protest-related charges.

While being interviewed by “America First” host Sebastian Gorka on Monday, Rep. Mat Gaetz responded to Democratic vice-presidential nominee Senator Kamala Harris’ claim that she is from “outside the system.”
Gaetz argued that Harris is not an outsider. He pointed out that she was successful in her career just from dating San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown.
“Did Kamala Harris literally say she understands what it is like being outside the system?” he asked. “Kamala Harris moved up in California politics because she was dating Willie Brown. She is a straight-up machine candidate. That is essentially how she moved up — became the state attorney general then ran for the United States Senate. So, I’m not entirely sure Kamala Harris is here to lecture any of us on what life is like outside the system.”
“I would also suggest the Black Lives Matter movement is explicitly Marxist. I think that is on the opposite end of the spectrum and brilliant because every time that’s been tried as a governing philosophy, it has failed. I think America is pretty great, and I’m ready to fight for her. And I think the president is going to go out there and rally an American electorate that will believe in this country, and will, of course, strive to be a more perfect union. But we’re not going to just settle into the despair of Joe Biden’s basement, thinking that somehow we’ve got something to apologize for because we love American, and we’re willing to work hard to protect and improve her.”
