In a major victory for sex criminals living in America illegally, the Biden administration ended a Trump-era program targeting such individuals for deportation.
The head-scratching move comes as a result of the left’s rushed efforts to undo everything launched by the Trump administration.
Coined, “Operation Talon,” the Trump program was created to seek out convicted sex offenders living in the United States illegally.
The Trump operation gave law enforcement agencies “new authority to match felony fugitive files with government records of current and former food stamp recipients.”
Congressman Vern Buchanan (R-FL) spoke out against the Biden administration’s decision on Wednesday, saying, “Canceling this program makes absolutely no sense and sends the wrong message. If you are in this country illegally and have a history of sex convictions you should be a high priority for our law enforcement agencies.”
“America should not be viewed as a sanctuary country to these criminals,” Buchanan added. “It’s unclear whether the cancellation of ‘Operation Talon’ was intentional or collateral damage in your softening of immigration enforcement, but regardless the program needs to be reinstated. The administration owes the country an explanation for this decision and it should reverse the action to show that it is serious in addressing these types of heinous crimes.”
ABC 4 News reports, “South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson joined a coalition of 18 state attorneys general to urge Biden to reverse the cancellation.”
Wilson argued, “We’re working hard to fight human trafficking and sex crimes in South Carolina and allowing convicted sex offenders who are here illegally to remain in our country makes absolutely no sense. These trafficking and sex crimes are repugnant to human decency generally and to children specifically.”
The operation was run by US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which is in danger of being abolished by the Biden administration.
According to The Washington Times, “Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas recently introduced a plan to do away with ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations arm and convert those officers into agents who investigate transnational crime instead of going after illegal immigrants.”
The move would basically keep ICE’s name and its investigations arm, while essentially eliminating the agency’s ability to enforce immigration laws.
A source told Colorado Politics, “This is an administrative abolishment of ICE as we currently know it.”
