Calling BS on Walmart’s Excuse for Politically Biased Tweet with Hashtag #Soreloser to Sen. Hawley (and Maybe BS on Hawley too)

BY LISA MICHELLE

The superstore Walmart, which owes much of its glory to the red flyover states where President Trump overwhelmingly won both the 2016 and 2020 elections, might just have dealt itself the same fatal blow as Fox News when it chose to weigh in on the election certification process on Wednesday.

“Go ahead. Get your 2 hour debate,” reads a Twitter response with the hashtag “#soreloser” from the Walmart account to Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO).

Walmart was responding to Senator Hawley’s plan to object to the election certification results on January 6, 2021. “Millions of voters concerned about election integrity deserve to be heard. I will object on January 6 on their behalf,” reads his tweet with a screenshot of his following statement:

‘Following both the 2004 and 2016 elections, Democrats in Congress objected during the certification of electoral votes in order to raise concerns about election integrity. They were praised by Democratic leadership and the media when they did. And they were entitled to do so. But now those of us concerned about the integrity of this election are entitled to do the same.

‘I cannot vote to certify the electoral college results on January 6 without raising the fact that some states, particularly Pennsylvania, failed to follow their own state election laws. And I cannot vote to certify without pointing out the unprecedented effort of mega corporations, including Facebook and Twitter, to interfere in this election, in support of [Joe] Biden. At the very least, Congress should investigate allegations of voter fraud and adopt measures to secure the integrity of our elections. But Congress has so far failed to act.

‘For these reasons, I will follow the same practice Democrat members of Congress have in years past and object to the certification process on January 6 to raise these critical issues.’

“Thanks ⁦@Walmart⁩ for your insulting condescension,” Hawley replied back to Walmart. “Now that you’ve insulted 75 million Americans, will you at least apologize for using slave labor?”

Whether Senator Hawley was referring figuratively to the low wages Walmart pays to its employees or to the cheap forced factory labor of the Uighurs in China where much of its products are made, it stands to reason that it might not want President Trump with his hardline position on China to reclaim his seat. As Jack Posobiec of One America News pointed out, “80% of Walmart’s suppliers are in the People’s Republic of China.”

In fact, from 2012 to 2015 Walmart ranked as the single largest importer of products, and it owns over 400 stores in China.

Walmart has also enjoyed a privileged economic position throughout the COVID-19 pandemic but at the expense of many American small business owners, who offer comparable products and services but are dropping like flies due to shutdowns. Meanwhile, Walmart, which saw 79% growth in profits from June to August 2020 alone, has been given a free pass to operate as “essential.”

Either way, shortly after Hawley responded to Walmart’s comment, it followed up with an apology and blamed the tweet on its social media team. “The tweet published earlier was mistakenly posted by a member of our social media team,” claimed Walmart. “We deleted the post and have no intention of commenting on the subject of certifying the electoral college. We apologize to Senator Hawley for this error and any confusion about our position.”

It was too late. The genie was out of the bottle, and the damage was done. Trump supporters were already up in arms, and few were convinced by Walmart’s excuse . . .

“I walked away from Fox News and haven’t regretted it one bit and I can easily walk away from Walmart too,” said a Twitter user named Shauna Stephens.

“So one junior employee can tweet on behalf of a mega corporation with a $407B market cap?” asked Tim Young. “There aren’t any checks before tweets are sent out from your company’s official Twitter account? Even if it was a mistake, these hidden agendas/biases bleed throughout the corporate culture,” he concluded.

“Why did they allow some radical left wing slob to use their official Twitter account to launch an unwarranted personal attack on the Senator for simply doing his job?” tweeted Lisa.

Another Twitter user Dave wasn’t buying Walmart’s “bullsh*t” either and referred to a 2018 post by Ryan Fournier, who had asked at the time why Walmart was selling “Impeach 45” baby clothes on its website.

I’m calling BS on Walmart and Hawley both. The former for the reasons mentioned above, and the latter for the ambiguous, noncommittal statement that he posted to Twitter. It’s a smoke-and-mirrors proposal that leaves us still questioning whether he plans to inspire “debate” — “at the very least,” as he says — or whether he has the integrity and courage it takes to do the right thing and to vote against the certification of fraudulent results. At least 73-million Americans won’t be appeased anymore by debates and congressional probes for the sake of future elections. It’s a now-or-never endeavor.

“Who’s had enough of @Walmart?” quipped Dr. Sebastian Gorka.

Many of us have had it with both the privileged corporate class like Walmart and the all-talk-but-do-nothing political elites from the Washington Swamp. We’ll know on Wednesday, January 6, if Senator Hawley is one of the latter or not.
