House Speaker Pelosi Strikes Down Minority Leader McCarthy’s GOP Picks for January 6 Committee

The sham continues . . .

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has denied House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s six Republican recommendations for what has been characterized by the Washington Swamp as a “nonpartisan” 13-member select committee to “Investigate the January 6th Attack on the Capitol.” Those recommended include ranking Judiciary Committee member Jim Jordan (R-OH), Jim Banks (R-IN), Troy Nehls (R-TX), Kelly Armstrong (R-ND), and Rodney Davis (R-IL).

In a statement released by Pelosi’s office on Wednesday, she describes the January 6th demonstrations as a “violent domestic attack on Congress” and the “worst assault on the Capitol since the War of 1812” and on American Democracy since the Civil War.

“I must reject the recommendations of Representatives Banks and Jordan to the Select Committee,” insists Pelosi in her statement. “The unprecedented nature of January 6th demands this unprecedented decision.”

McCarthy struck back in a statement of his own on Wednesday, calling Pelosi’s “unprecedented” rejection of his appointments an “egregious abuse of power” and the investigation and process a “sham”:

Speaker Nancy Pelosi has taken the unprecedented step of denying the minority party’s picks for the Select Committee on January 6. This represents an egregious abuse of power and will irreparably damage this institution.”

Unless Speaker Pelosi reverses course and seats all five Republican nominees, Republicans will not be party to their sham process and will instead pursue our own investigation of the facts.”

Later on Fox News McCarthy defended his committee picks, arguing that “Never in the history of Congress has this ever taken place where one party decides who’s on the committee.”

“Never in the history of our country has a Speaker acted like such an authoritarian,” tweeted McCarthy, but he can never say “never” again . . .
