Every year on Memorial Day weekend, AMVETS marks the occasion with a magnificent display of thousands of motorcycles in Washington, D.C., to pay tribute to our wounded and fallen heroes, to remind Americans and Congress of the challenges our veterans and active-duty military face, and to demand action for the 82,000 prisoners of war and those still missing in action.

“We will never forget our POWs and MIAs,” reads a message by AMVETS on its official page, rollingtoremember.com. “We won’t stop fighting for real solutions to the suicide crisis.” According to AMVETS, 22 veterans a day die by suicide.

Yet, this year, under the Biden Administration, the event, which was formerly known as “Rolling Thunder,” was shut down by the Pentagon purportedly due to the coronavirus, and the group was denied a permit for its staging area. Although it had to alter its format and move its staging area to Robert F. Kennedy Memorial Stadium, the group persevered, writing on its website,

On May of 2020, we continued a 33-year-old tradition of riding around our nation’s capital advocating for our prisoners of war and missing in action still unaccounted for, as well as the veteran suicide crisis we face, as an average of 22 veterans die by suicide daily.

We thank those who participated in sending a message not only to Congress but to the American people on our remaining missing in action and the veteran suicide crisis. Not only do we need to continue efforts of bringing deceased American heroes home, we need to bring to light a concerning statistic that an average of 22 veterans die by suicide daily.

On May 30th, we will conduct our second consecutive  demonstration ride in Washington D.C. A full itinerary of events will be available soon.

We appreciate your support and flexibility during an unprecedented time in our nation’s history. We look forward to coming together, even stronger than before, to continue this important tradition in-person in 2021. The message will be clear throughout: we will never forget our POWs and MIAs, and we won’t stop fighting for real solutions to the suicide crisis.

This Sunday, May 30, AMVETS held its annual ride, “Rolling to Remember 2021.” As Kyle Morris for Breitbart reports,

Thousands of bikers gathered at RFK Stadium in Washington, DC, on Sunday for the annual Rolling to Remember event where some of them gave their opinions to Breitbart News on athletes kneeling during the National Anthem.

‘I stand for the flag, and I kneel for God,’ said Mike, a motorcyclist in town for the ride. ‘You need to stand for the flag for the 82,000 guys that are still MIAs and have not come home and for the hundreds and hundreds of thousands who have lost their lives, who have gone off to war and lost their lives fighting for our freedoms.’

‘My message to the athletes is: You’re a role model and you shouldn’t be making that much of a statement when there are young kids out there watching and trying to emulate what you’re doing,’ he added. ‘They should be proud Americans and standing up for everybody, not just their own personal opinion.’

‘It’s kind of like he said — it’s respecting, you know,’ said Eric, another nearby motorcyclist attending the event. ‘Stand up for it and stand up for the messages you want to stand for as well. I think that’s where the pride comes from. Whatever that message is that you’re wanting to be heard or are trying to get out to people, stand for it.’

‘I don’t think disrespecting someone else’s message is a way to get your message heard,’ he added.

As previously reported by Breitbart News, the Rolling to Remember event draws ‘attention to the men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice, to more than 80,000 missing in action and prisoners of war, and also to the average of 22 daily suicides committed by veterans or active military.’
