Video (above): President Trump Posts Public Video Message to Twitter to Address American Concerns Over Stimulus Bill (Dec.22, 2020)

“The Stimulus Bill: The gov’t closes the economy,” contends an attorney who goes by the name Techno Fog on Twitter . . .

You lose your job. You face eviction.

$600 for all your troubles.

Meanwhile they send:

$135 million to Burma
$85.5 million to Cambodia
$1.4 billion for ‘Asia Reassurance Initiative Act’
$130 million to Nepal

They hate you.

Message received! President Trump heard the concerns expressed by millions of Americans, who were incensed over the 5,593-page, $2.3 trillion stimulus bill for which all but six Republican senators voted: Ted Cruz (TX), Mike Lee (UT), Rand Paul (KY), Marsha Blackburn (TN), Ron Johnson (WI), and Rick Scott (FL).

In a public video address that he posted on Twitter tonight, Trump announces his refusal to sign the COVID Relief Bill when it reaches his desk. The Bill, Trump explains, is riddled with waste. It provides billions of dollars in foreign aid and pork that caters to lobbyists and special interest groups but fails to provide sufficient relief to the American people.

Throughout the summer,” begins Trump,

Democrats cruelly blocked COVID relief legislation in an effort to advance their extreme left-wing agenda and influence the election.

Then, a few months ago, Congress started negotiations on a new package to get urgently needed help to the American people. It’s taken forever. However, the Bill they’re now planning to send back to my desk is much different than anticipated. It really is a disgrace.

The Bill, which Trump says “nobody has read because of its length and complexity,” provides each American taxpayer with a mere $600 payment but allocates up to $1,800 for the families of illegal aliens. It also fails to provide adequate relief to small businesses, particularly restaurant owners, who have been among some of the hardest hit from COVID-19 shutdowns, which is another major contention of his.

“Despite all of this wasteful spending, and much more,” adds Trump,

the $900 billion-dollar package provides hard-working taxpayers with only $600 each in relief payments, and not enough money is given to small businesses and, in particular, restaurants, whose owners have suffered so grievously. They were only given a deduction for others to use in business for two years.

This two-year period must be withdrawn, which will allow the owners to obtain financing and get their restaurants back in condition. Congress can terminate it at a much later date, but two years is not acceptable. It’s not enough.

Trump goes on to list some of the most egregious examples of spending and waste in the Bill, including:

Foreign Aid

    • $85.5 million for assistance to Cambodia
    • $134 million to Burma
    • $1.3 billion for Egypt and the Egyptian military, which will most likely be used towards the purchase of Russian military equipment
    • $25 million for democracy and gender programs in Pakistan
    • $505 million to Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama

Special Interests/Projects

    • $7 million for reef fish management
    • $25 million to combat Asian carp
    • $2.5 million to counter the number of amberjack fish in the Gulf of Mexico
    • A provision to prevent the breeding of fish in federal hatcheries
    • $3 million in poultry production technology
    • $2 million to research the impact of DownTrees
    • $566 million for construction projects at the FBI

Foundations & Cultural Centers

    • $40 million for the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C.
    • $1 billion for the Smithsonian
    • $154 million for the National Gallery of Art

According to Trump, the last three facilities are not even open for business.

As an aside and food for some thought, is it just a coincidence that only today Trump also announced his Intent to Appoint [41] Individuals to Key Administration Posts,” which includes to the boards of two of the institutions mentioned above — the Smithsonian and Kennedy Center? Pam Bondi and Richard Grenell are among the 39 other appointments to boards of various foundations and institutions. Might he have placed them at each to keep a close watch on the funds and to ensure that the cultural bend doesn’t stray too far off course?

Another little gem buried deep in the Bill is a provision that would nullify Trump’s presidential right to institute the Insurrection Act. Hat tip to Chuck Callesto for flagging the following:

The title of the amendment is H.Amdt. 833 (Escobar) to H.R. 6395: To require certifications be made to Congress when the President deploys active duty military within the United States during civil unrest by amending the Insurrection Act in Title 10, Chapter 13 of U.S. Code..

If Trump is aware of it, he didn’t let on, but it wasn’t the focus of his public address.

Trump wants the Bill to provide $2,000 for each American taxpayer and $4,000 for each couple, and he is asking Congress to amend it and to remove the wasteful spending from it. “Congress found plenty of money for foreign countries, lobbyists, and special interests, while sending the bare minimum to the American people, who need it,” he concludes.

It wasn’t their fault. It was China’s fault – not their fault.

I am asking Congress to amend this bill and increase the ridiculously low $600 to $2,000 or $4,000 for a couple. I am also asking Congress to immediately get rid of the wasteful and unnecessary items from this legislation and to send me a suitable Bill or else the next administration will have to deliver a COVID-relief package, and maybe that administration will be me, and we will get it done.
